The sixth strength of the Calendar-Day view is titled “Special Revelation Based.” The following is this point as excerpted from the PCA Report:
“ The Calendar-Day view stands on the basis of special revelation, rather than being indebted to or dependent upon any particular ancient or modern scientific worldview, whether it be that of uniformitarian geology, Darwinian evolution, Big Bang cosmology, or even creation science. A theology wed to the science of one age is a widow in the next. “
The Calendar-Day view of creation is based on special revelation – the word of God to humankind – the Bible. The Calendar-Day view is not based on general revelation or science. The differences between general revelation and special revelation are clearly stated in Chapter 1, Article 1. Of the Westminster Confession of Faith (excerpted from the OPC website on 12/23/15 as follows):
“Although the light of nature, and the works of creation and providence do so far manifest the goodness, wisdom, and power of God, as to leave men unexcusable; yet are they not sufficient to give that knowledge of God, and of his will, which is necessary unto salvation. Therefore it pleased the Lord, at sundry times, and in divers manners, to reveal himself, and to declare that his will unto his church; and afterwards, for the better preserving and propagating of the truth, and for the more sure establishment and comfort of the church against the corruption of the flesh, and the malice of Satan and of the world, to commit the same wholly unto writing: which maketh the Holy Scripture to be most necessary; those former ways of God’s revealing his will unto his people being now ceased.”
God revels himself to all persons through the light of nature and acts of providence, this general revelation of Gods acts and character leaves people inexcusable. General revelation is very limited in scope. General revelation is not the conclusions of the mainstream science.
Due to the fact that the Calendar-Day view of creation is based on special revelation, there is no need for those who hold this view to reconcile the Bible to the conclusions of mainstream. This Biblical supernaturalism allows God to act outside the realm of the commonly observed.
The sixth strength of the Calendar –Day view is that it is based on God’s special revelation. There is no need to reconcile the supernatural acts of God to the conclusions of mainstream science. The Calendar-Day view correctly recognizes the roles of special revelation and general revelation.
